Why Hire a Professional Makeup Artist for Your Wedding Pictures and Video? By Virginia Alexander Professional Makeup Artists are trained in all aspects of Makeup; Photography, (They know is difference between, Black and White Vs Color Photography.) Video, Film & Stage (Stage is theatrical) all the different mediums require a different type of skill & application. A Good Makeup Artist will present you with photographs of their work. So you can see their skill & style. It's called their "Book"

What to look for when interviewing a makeup artist First and foremost, in any wedding photograph, the Bride should look radiant & balanced, nothing should stand out. The style of makeup should go with the style or theme of the wedding. The finished photographs should be as professional as any ad in a high end magazine. What to look for: Is their work clean? Lip & eye liner have clean lines? Is the makeup blended? No racing stripes. Are the color choices balanced, or do you just see lips, cheeks or eyes? Is their Book diverse, meaning do they create different looks or is everyone the same? Do they use professional makeup products? Professional products are made to last for hours under hot lights and different weather conditions. Professionals have them and use them. Do they know the difference between Black & White and color photography? Here is the question that will separate the wheat from the chaff! FYI-Black & White Photography uses very little color, the use of contour and high light determine how your face will structurally look. Dark colors come up looking black in the pictures. If they are professionally trained, they know this. The Camera picks up 250 times more detail than the human eye....Like a mirror!

Look in a mirror, it is like the cameras eye, when we look in a mirror we see more detail. Why this is, mainly, because there is no diffusion or background diversion when looking in a mirror. We naturally see the detail, we are looking for it! That's why we are more critical of ourselves. This is why Makeup artists work looking in a mirror. So we can see the details that you see! The Different types of lighting you will be in! This is an important element that Professional makeup artists always take into consideration when applying makeup. Wedding photography takes place in different types of lighting. Out doors, the brightest, purest light can completely wash you out. The other is in a Location (e.g., church, restaurant) the lowest softest light. A professional will know how to adjust your makeup for both types of lighting.

Camera-Ready Brides

The professional makeup artist, through the use of highlighting, contouring & placement of color, will create the illusion of bone structure. The makeup will define your eyes; create higher cheekbones, a strong jaw line and a symmetrical mouth. A makeup artist will be balancing out all your features. Their job is to create a makeup style on the day of your wedding suiting your style and complimenting every aspect of your look. With any luck and by the grace of God you will only do this once....So hiring a Professional Makeup Artist will be a true asset. Your photographs and video will be a constant reminder of money well spent!
