New reports suggest that Botox, the notorious wrinkle-remover, is best left to those who have already begun to show signs of aging, otherwise it might actually age your face!! In an article in The Daily Telegraph, U.K. plastic surgeon Darren McKeown notes that there is no evidence showing that Botox works as a preventive measure. He explains that Botox works on wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause expression lines and that overusing the filler can cause the face to appear aged, regardless of the lack of wrinkles.
But what’s most important is Dr. McKeown’s warning that Botox be used by people whose lines and wrinkles are already developed and not by those who are still developing. “Generally, it is best to wait at least until there are lines on the face at rest, which for most people is at some point in their thirties. Having the treatment too early may not only lead to undesirable results over time; you could just be depriving yourself of the best looks you were ever destined to have,” Dr. McKeown said in the article.
