Are You Trapped? Hair product tips that make sense

Is yours the kind of hair that always seems to have issues? I mean, do you wake up with this vision of how you would like your hair to look and then spend the rest of the day trying to make it look that way? Your routine is generally the same...you shampoo and condition, mousse and gel, blow dry, spray, spray, spray, only to have it not do what you intended?! Welcome to the world that almost every woman [and sometimes some of us guys] experience at least once a week. The truth of the matter is, that when you least expect it, your hair decides to rule your day! I have touched on the subject of "the right shampoo and conditioner" for your hair type before, but in the event that you did not read the issue, it is important to remember that what you clean and condition your hair with, is as important... if not more important than what styling products you use. The reason is simple..."if you are trapped in a shampoo world that promises to give you silky, shiny, lustrous hair at $4.95 for a 98 oz. bottle...you must be living in the same world where every day is a "good hair day!" Let's be real...if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! When you get dressed in the morning what is the first thing you put on? Most likely, your under garments. It would make no sense, and they would have no purpose, if you put them on the outside of your clothing, or else they would be called outer garments. Just like that, so goes the shampoo analogy. Start by using what makes sense for your hair, not your nose. I know, I too enjoy the fragrance of my hair and skin products, but, I realize as a fan of "the good hair day" that the fragrance isn't what is doing the job, it's the combination of the ingredients. And somewhere in some remote part of the world is a chemist who understands and develops products that serve a specific purpose. I value that knowledge. Now that I have your attention regarding the use of the proper cleansing and conditioning, lets take a look at what happens next.

"...if you are trapped in a shampoo world that promises to give you silky, shiny, lustrous hair at $4.95 for a 98 oz. bottle...you must be living in the same world where every day is a "good hair day!"

When you choose your styling products it is imperative that you are fully aware of what your hair can and cannot "support." Here's what I mean...when you think about volume in your hair, what words come to mind? Do you think...fluffy, light, airy, height? I agree. Now when you choose a mousse or gel that promises all those things, you need to make sure that is designed for your hair type and texture. A mousse or gel  that is designed for volume doesn't know what hair type you have. The chances are good that you will have a "not so good" experience with the product which turns out to be too heavy after all.

"So you put it under the cabinet with all the other products that didn't work...right?" I used to have an entire cabinet dedicated to products that "I refuse to throw these away, I will use them one day!" They are kind of like the too tight jeans that we are convinced with time and exercise, will fit again! Doubtful. The thing with products for styling, they need to be chosen for your very specific needs. Remember, we're talking about encouraging a "good hair day." As with everything "advice" I will say...consult with your stylist. You trust them don't you? You love the way your hair looks when you leave the salon, don't you? Let them guide you based on what they know about your hair. You deserve to look your best, and minimize the bad hair days...one at a time!

1. Start by using what makes sense for your hair, not your nose!

2. Choose the products you purchase based on the needs of your hair!

3. As with everything "advice" I will say...consult with your stylist
