Founded in 1870 The Metropolitan Museum of Art has an extensive collection of antiques, ancient Egyptian pieces, Classical art and International art. It also has collections of musical instruments, antique weapons, and costumes.  The Costume Institute department has a collection of more than 35,000 costumes and accessories with classic collections and exhibition displays from Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianni Versace, and Alexander McQueen and wardrobe displays from iconic people associated with fashion like Babe Paley, Jayne Wrightsman, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis,  Madonna, David Bowie, and The Beatles.
