Katy Perry and John Mayer, who had been dating for the past seven months in what was their second chance at love, have again parted ways, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

The split comes less than a month after Perry, 28, was spotted wearing a a ruby ring from Mayer, 35.

They were first spotted together less than a year after Perry and divorced Russel Brand,and seemed to be doing great.

They even spent Christmas with her family.

As recently as last month, Mayer was upbeat about the relationship, even speculating on the idea of marriage.

Katy Perry and John Mayer have been dating since summer and Mayer says he's comfy.

"I don't feel like I'm in a celebrity relationship," Mayer, 35, told Anthony Mason during an interview with CBS, of his romance with Perry, 28.

"For the first time in my life I don't feel like I'm in a celebrity relationship. I really don't. I'm not in a high profile – I know it's high profile. It's hard to explain ..." he said.

"For me it feels like something that's very human," he added.

When asked if he sees himself getting married, Mayer responded, "Of course. I mean, I'm still the kid from Connecticut. That's what you do."

The couple went to President Obama's inauguration and the Grammy awards together.

Things are definitely heating up between Katy Perry and John Mayer and now there are pictures to really prove it.

Hollywood's latest "It" couple especially now that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart seem to be no more have been spotted out together over the past few weeks, and were seen hitting up a pool party earlier this month.

"They were all over each other, making out! Neither of them is exactly shy," a source told Us Weekly about the new couple's PDA.

While sources told the magazine that Perry is officially dating Mayer, the singer who finalized her divorce from comedian Russell Brand earlier this year was singing a different tune a few months ago when it came to moving on from her marriage.

"There are times I go out and meet people and flirt, but it's not really appropriate to have anything serious," she said in a July interview with USA Today, referring to her fling with Florence + The Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd.

Perhaps Perry has decided it's time to really get back into the dating game, considering Brand has publicly moved on with girlfriend Isabella Brewster.

But it would seem things are certainly hotting up for Katy Perry and John Mayer.

After enjoying their first public date at Chateau Marmont on Wednesday night, it looks as though the 27-year-old singer enjoyed a sleepover of sorts at her new beau's house.

On Thursday morning, a sheepish-looking Katy was dropped off at her apartment in Los Angeles in the singer's black Ferrari after reportedly spending the night with the star.
