Katie Holmes was supposed spend the week showing fashion editors her latest fashion line collection in a private presentation set up in a luxury hotel suite, and she spent yesterday in New York City doing just that. She's in New York for fashion week  to present her Holmes and Yang fashion line, But today, the blizzard that’s battering the East Coast caused Holmes to reprioritize. Her daughter Suri's school was closing early, it was explained, and she had to go pick her up, excellent reason!

That practical part of her life — and that of her design partner and stylist Jeanne Yang herself a mother to twin girls — is an ever-present influence on their fashion philosophy. “Our customer is somebody who wants to be comfortable” says Yang, who walked PEOPLE through an intimate one-on-one presentation of the line. “You want to look good, but Katie and I always talk about this, it should never come at the cost of comfort.”

Tom Cruise has completed a real “Mission: Impossible” he doesn’t have to pay Katie Holmes any spousal support.

The Hollywood actor’s $250 million bank account is still mostly intact in the wake of his and Holmes’ divorce settlement, which was officially finalized by a judge on Wednesday, less than two months after she filed. All the actress wanted in the split was custody of their daughter Suri, and it seems that’s all she got. A source familiar with the details of the documents filed in court tells TMZ that Holmes, 33, will receive no spousal support from her ex, per their prenuptial agreement.

But Cruise, 50, will have to pay for the care of 6-year-old Suri, even though Holmes was granted sole custody, with him getting “meaningful” visitation, until she turns 18 in May 2024. According to the agreement, the “Rock of Ages” star will pay Holmes $400,000 a year in child support, which will cover her medical/dental care, insurance, education (including college), and extracurricular activities, and will be shelled out on a monthly basis via electronic transfer of $33,333. Over the next 12 years, Cruise will pay a total of $4.8 million for Suri. (The actor's attorney declined to comment to Reuters on the report, and a lawyer for Holmes did not respond.)

During the entire Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise divorce saga thus far, we've noticed how much Katie has focused her attentions on her fashion endeavors (not to mention her daughter Suri). So it comes as no surprise that even before serving Tom with divorce papers asking for full custody, the mother also took a big step to protect her fashion line Holmes & Yang: She fired Tom's daughter from the company.

A source tells The Hollywood Reporter that Bella, Tom's 19-year-old adopted daughter from his marriage to Nicole Kidman, was abruptly fired from her post at Holmes & Yang just two months before Katie decided to formally end the marriage. According to the source, the decision seemed out of the blue:

There was never any trouble between them. Bella called Katie ‘Mom.’ She was fired out of the blue, and once Katie filed for divorce, it all made sense. This was a carefully planned ambush. Katie didn’t want Bella working for her anymore because she was Tom’s kid.

Some have taken Katie's actions as a sign that she was gearing up to leave Tom for months before the surprising announcement. While we can only speculate on that matter, we do know that the recent divorcee has certainly had fashion on the brain during the months leading up to the split. During an interview in the August issue of Elle, Katie announced that Holmes & Yang will be hitting the runway come September Fashion Week. So at least now that the whole divorce thing is out of the way (they settled today!), she can continue to focus her energies on her fashion endeavors.

After five years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," says Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Cruise's rep tells PEOPLE: "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."

The Rock of Ages star, 49, wed actress Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in November 2006. They have daughter Suri, 6.

This was Holmes's first marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to the actresses Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children, and Mimi Rogers.
