Amanda Perna captured my attention as she styled one my recent editorial shoots. She refreshed me with something I have scarcely seen in fashion since my move to New York- Bold and bright designs that add flare to NYC fashion!
Her expressive designs captivated a large audience when she was selected as a contestant for season 9 of Project Runway. Amanda takes a bold approach to fashion, and isn't afraid to incorporate vivid Florida inspired colors into a city chic look.
I further explored Amanda's purpose as a designer, and future plans in her fashion career.
Heather Aboff: What is your overall goal in fashion?
Amanda Perna: My overall goal is to make American fashion a power house again, and make Miami more of a voice in the fashion scene by developing my brand.
HA: How would you describe your designs?
AP: Growing up in Florida I was around a lot of bright colors that inspired me. My pieces are bold, vibrant, and creative with a bit of city edge. They are chic wearable designs that make every women stand out in a crowd.
HA: Why is fashion important to you?
AP: When you put on an outfit it can completely transform you. You can look like a new person when you put on a garment. However, it's the person who is wearing the clothing that must carry the confidence. I feel a women of any shape and size can pull off an outfit as long as they have confidence.
HA: What should we be looking for in your next collection?
AP: I am working on my collection for Resort 2013. It is basically a merge of Florida and New York. The collection has Miami influence in terms of color and fabrication, but takes after an uptown girls chic look.
Stay tuned for some of Amanda's new work at Style Week in Miami June 11-13th!
