In December Beyonce released a self titled surprise “Visual” Album which was essentially videos for every song on her album. Everyone in the music industry was pretty amazed that she could pull off this feat with no prior notice or press leaks. No one even knew she was working on an album.
Anyway one of the most popular songs on the album “Drunk in Love” has prompted an internet discussion about the lyrics. People are trying to figure out what Beyonce is talking about in these lyrics.
“Cigars on ice, Cigars on Ice” = Liquor on the rocks, drank while smoking a cigar.
“Surfboard” = Sexual position where the woman straddles the man. She is standing and he is laying down and she squats down on to him and bounces up and down.
“Graining” = Grinding “Dusse” = Jay Z’s brand of Cognac
“Know I sling Clint Eastwood, hope you can handle this curve” = Clint Eastwood starred in the film “Trouble With The Curve”, a film that narrates the story of a man who chooses his instincts over everything. In the same way, Jay isn’t very rational when he’s in bed with B when he gives her his curve.
“Eat the Cake Anna Mae” = From the Tina Turner Biopic “What’s Love Got To Do With It” At one point in the film, Tina Turner, real name Anna Mae Bullock, has just released her own music single and two kids come up to her at a diner asking for her autograph. Not her husband Ike’s. Ike is jealous. He tells her to “eat the cake” so they can celebrate her new and independent success. She doesn’t want any. He says “Eat the cake, Anna Mae” and when she refuses, he stands up, shoves it in her mouth and across her face.
“Ive been drinking watermelon” = Drinking semen. Watermelon is a slang term for semen. the relation can be found in the fact that both have seeds. By saying she’s drinking watermelon, she means swallowing sperm.
“Drunk in love” lyrics:
I’ve been drinking, I’ve been drinking
I get filthy when that liquor get into me
I’ve been thinking, I’ve been thinking
Why can’t I keep my fingers off it, baby?
I want you, na na
Why can’t I keep my fingers off you, baby?
I want you, na na
