You might call this the era of sexual ambiguity in general, with women being so dominant and men getting firmly in touch with their feminine sides.

But now let’s take this one step further. Last year, Andreja Pejic, a very female looking male model took the fashion world by storm.  He walked in both the womenswear and menswear shows for designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs. When you look at pictures of Pejic, you can understand why. He was not just androgynous or sexually ambiguous. He was absolutely gorgeous!

Pejic looks a little like Christie Brinkley from back in the day.

Now he’s made the news again by announcing to his fans on Facebook that he is transgender meaning that he had a sex re-asignment or sex change and is officially a woman. He’s hoping to inspire other people that may be going through the difficulties that he’s had.

“As a transgender woman I hope to show that after transition (a life-saving process) one can be happy and successful in their new chapter without having to alienate their past,” the 22-year-old wrote.

However, Tim Gun, the mentor of Project Runway, who is openly gay has said that he’s not sure that having transgender models works. He feels that a man in women’s clothes does not accurately reflect women anatomically.

“The fact that fashion designers would put basically adolescent-shaped boys or men in women’s clothes is head-scratching for me because, anatomically, women and men have different shapes. Says Gunn.

“The fact of the matter is, when you are transgender — if you go, say, male to female — you’re not having your pelvis broken and having it expanded surgically. You still have the anatomical bone structure of a man.”
