For International Women’s Day 2022, Kith is celebrating with a collaboration capsule for Aaliyah.
The collection is a part of a Kith Women partnership with the late singer’s estate and photographer Robert Whitman. All proceeds will go toward the Detroit School of Arts, Aaliyah’s former high school, as well as I Support the Girls, a foundation that collects and distributes essential items and hygienic products to women experiencing homelessness and distress.
In addition, the retailer produced five unisex vintage-style T-shirts in a range of colors. Fans can also expect to see Whitman-captured photos of the singer on a variety of pieces, such as a “Rock the Boat” hoodie and a blue graphic tee.
“We worked with Kith and the renowned photographer Robert Whitman on a project to honor the life and legacy of Aaliyah. Together we created a clothing capsule using never-before-seen pictures of Aaliyah taken by Whitman, as well as a short film with students from Aaliyah’s alma mater, the Detroit School of Arts, and a capsule collection,” is stated on Aaliyah’s official Instagram.
“I’m a huge fan of Kith and all that Ronnie has achieved, in taking that first store in Brooklyn and expanding it into a brand that touches the four corners of the globe. Aaliyah was born in Brooklyn, grew up in Detroit, and went on to touch the whole world with her light and creativity,” said estate manager and Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, in a statement. “That’s why I felt that Kith would be the perfect partner to release unseen photos of my sister on their incredible fashion designs.”
