Swim Week was a blur. Planet Fashion TV hosted an amazing event to open the week, then after it was days of runway shows and trade shows. By the middle of it you literally can’t believe how many swimwear brands there are. My guess is that there are thousands. The challenge really is for brands to figure out ways to set themselves apart.
Maaji, which is always a crowd and press fave was one of the best thought out, delightfully styled, trendsetters of the week. The theme of the global traveler was original and yet took us back to Peter Beard photography and the heady days of the first supermodels. You could just imagine Iman or Verushka heading off to India or Africa in these clothes for a remote shoot in the 70’s. That’s not to say it wasn’t modern as several girls adorned headphones and cameras. The styling was aspirational. This is a girl you want to be; the sexy, natural, boho-chic adventurer. This was by far one of the week’s best and more original shows.
