New York Fashion Week 2015 by Elena Tsakiridou
NYFW just ended and there are so many things that you need to see! As always, many shows and upcoming designers, fabulous parties, a stunning crowd and, of course, the hottest trends for next season! Seems like we have a lot of catching up to do so, let’s start.
When it comes to beauty, the majority of the looks displayed were very natural and simple, glowy, fresh and healthy looking. The makeup artists focused on the eyes with soft smoky looks or cat-like black liner. Most of them went for natural, almost faded out, or glossy lips but some decided to make things interesting and add a pop of color with berry and red lipsticks. Plenty of feminine looks with flushed, rosy cheeks and the lightest contouring completed with naturally groomed eyebrows. Center partings dominated on the runway, with effortless waves, low ponytails and chignons.
Despite the unbearable cold, all the people who attended the shows made the streets their personal runway. Bloggers, reporters and celebrities conquered the front rows and the areas outside the shows with outstanding furs, oversized coats, overalls, thigh-high boots, interesting prints and lots of leather.
On the runway now, we spotted many rebellious looking girls. The designers focused on the darker color palettes but spiced things up with embellishments, sequins, leather and of, course, fur. Apart from the gorgeous monochromatic looks, there were many different prints paired together and grunge elements with a touch of baroque, like darker floral prints. The neutral looks couldn’t be missing from the catwalk, together with the incredibly elegant-old time classic-looks. We saw many sheer fabrics, sometimes too sheer. In more shows than one, models were walking barely nude. Lastly, I am happy to announce you that winter white will be trendy this season too!
Off to celebrities now. Last season, it was all about Kendall Jenner. This time though, her little sister, Kylie, did her debut for Kanye West’s (her brother in law) collection with Adidas. After all, it’s very common to bump on celebrities like Rihanna, Beyonce or Blake Lively partying or sitting front row when you’re at NYFW!
Also, very interesting and moving was the fact that Jack Eyers, was the first male amputee model to walk the runway at the Big Apple. It’s such a great gesture to let disabled people work in fashion. It has a bit of an impact on everyone, if you ask me.
I think this covers most of it, but then again, what do I know? If you’re starving for more NYFW madness then you can visit www.newyorkfashionweeklive.com/live/ and watch any of the shows that took place in New York. Pretty cool huh?
