If you haven’t heard of Peter Beard, then you are missing out on some amazing works of photography and literature. Peter Beard is an American contemporary photographer and writer. He has also authored several diaries, in addition to his collage work, which he is well known for.
Borne into a wealthy New York Family, and educated at Yale, he’s most known for his photographic images of supermodels, and rock stars. He was also well known as a hard partying playboy in the 1970’s. He was good friends with Mick Jagger, Andy Warhol, Jackie Onassis, and he was the genius who discovered the supermodel Iman. He married sports illustrated swimsuit supermodel Cheryl Tiegs and was a regular at Studio 54.
As a child, Beard moved around multiple areas of the United States including, Long Island, New York, New York City, New York and Alabama. Beard attended Yale University to study art history where he had the ability to study under the well-known art historian, Joseph Albers. Later began traveling to East Africa and eventually made a home in East Africa.
After having worked at Tsavo National Park and documenting elephants and Black Rhinos via photography and writings, he began a creative endeavor to explore the connection between humans and animals.
Beard has also made collaborations with several known artists such as Andy Warhol and Francis Bacon. He has also been asked to take photographs of several prominent politicians and celebrities. Beard’s work continues to be on display in galleries around the world. In 2010, his exhibit Elephant Parade was shown at the Somerset House in London, England.
Now due to the efforts of his wife who is his manager his work is seeing a big resurgence.
