When we heard that Rihanna would receive the CFDA 2014 Fashion Icon Awards, we immediately start wondering what she will be wearing for the ceremony!
Yesterday, the 26 years old superstar was the winner of the Fashion Icon Prize (previously won by Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga and Top Model Iman Bowie).
Rihanna walked the Red Carpet in a sparkly crystal beaded sheer dress with a matching thong and gloves, designed by Adam Selman. She set it off with a matching head wrap and pink fur stole. She was covered, literally, in Swarovski crystals, more than 200,000 of them!
Selman has been designing costumes for Rihanna since 2011 and debuted his own line at New York Fashion Week in September 2013. His glittering, handmade CFDA creation includes gloves and a head scarf that channel famed jazz-age dancer Josephine Baker, who coincidentally would be celebrating her 98th birthday Monday.
Rihanna is known for pushing the boundaries and never playing safe when it comes to her personal style.
She is also known for her topless selfies on her Instagram page #BadGalRiri, which account has been disabled after some racy photos she posted.
“Fashion is just a world of thrills. It’s exciting. There’s no rules,” Rihanna said after happily accepting her stylish statuette from fashion arbiter and Vogue editor Anna Wintour. “Fashion should never be frustrating. It should be fun!”
