Dubai-based airline Emirates has just debuted the latest in air travel luxury. New first class private suites can now be found in some of the airline’s Boeing 777s (the airline has 147 777sin service). The new suites take inspiration from the interiors of Mercedes-Benz cars.
“Emirates pioneered the First Class private suite concept back in 2003, and today it’s the industry benchmark when it comes to first class travel. Over the years we have continually improved on our private suites, adding thoughtful refinements and features,” said Emirates president Tim Clark in a press release.
Clark says that “this is the first time an Emirates product has been so influenced by another luxury brand, but it is a natural fit as both Emirates and Mercedes-Benz have the same unwavering commitment to fine detail, uncompromising quality, and a drive to push the boundaries.”
From Mercedes, Emirates took the ideas of “soft leather seating, high-tech control panels, and mood lighting.” The suites also come with a video call function to flag the flight attendants, and there rooms place an emphasis on privacy with service windows for passengers to be served drinks and canapés without having to speak to another person.
The suites also highlight the sightseeing aspect of travel. In what it calls an industry first, Emirates is introducing “virtual windows for suites located in the middle aisle.” The digital windows “project the view from outside the aircraft using real-time camera technology.” Emirates is also including binoculars in rooms with real windows so customers can make the most of their view.
The private suites are part of a broader upgrade for the entire 777 fleet, but if you’re going to fly a luxury airline, might as well go all the way.
