Planet Fashion TV came across the exciting swimwear designer Jennifer Weisman and we knew we had to have her show her line with us. She started her brand originally as a designer for mens board shorts and then expanded her brand to include women’s swimwear. She will feature her latest collection at our SWIM WEEK international designers showcase July 22nd at the SLS Hotel in Miami Beach.

Its been a fascinating journey for the Miami native who was born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida. Weisman spent much of her childhood and teenage years on the beaches of Miami. Becoming a swimwear designer was a natural progression from her roots of days spent on the beach in swimsuits.

Jennifer Weisman-Deisgner and CEO of Just Bones

As a child and teenager, Jennifer was passionate about ballet, art and cooking. She began dancing and cooking at age seven. Jennifer was always experimenting in the kitchen and aspired to make her cuisine as visually beautiful as appetizing. As she grew older, Jennifer began evolving creatively with painting, drawing and photography.

In prep school during the 80’s, Jennifer was inclined to cut, redesign and repurpose her clothing to be distinctively different and edgy. She preferred off the shoulder styles, along with short skirts, lacy pieces. She was influenced by the new age music style of the 80’s, as well as Madonna and Prince. Jennifer custom made her own senior prom dress.

On the weekends, when at home from boarding at Pine Crest Preparatory School, Jennifer would create custom torn, off the shoulder, hand painted graphic tees, which she sold to her stepmother’s friends from the gym. She also painted an entire wall of her bedroom with a background of the beach, sunset and palm trees.

It was at prep school that her art instructor encouraged her to apply to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Since Jennifer loved art, cooking, creating her own fashion, and painting, this seemed like the perfect college to hone her skills. Jennifer was honored with a coveted spot at FIT upon graduating prep school, where she majored in textile design.

Jennifer was initially inspired to create her boardshort design as the mother of twin boys. She became frustrated shopping every summer season and not finding swimwear with the correct fit. With her background in textiles and design, Jennifer decided to create a boardshort with the perfect fit that would reinvent the way boardshorts fit growing boys.

Just Bones Board Shorts

After finding a manufacturer for her innovative boardshort design, Jennifer was rewarded with two U.S. patents for the design of her hidden adjustable waist technology. These two patents make her boardshorts stand out from any other boardshort brand in the market place today.

Eventually her boardshort brand evolved into one that catered to toddlers, men and juniors due to consumer and buyer demand. The brand’s boardshort technology and unique prints are testimont to it’s continued success. Just Bones Boardwear™ was honored with TasteTV’s award for Best Swimwear of 2016 in the Specialty Interest Category – special functions.

Most recently, Jennifer felt the need to complement her boardshort brand with a bikini line. It seemed natural that after creating boardshorts with the perfect fit, she wanted to design a bikini line for performance in the water, as well as sexy, feminine and flirty. Her new bikini line was received with rave reviews and garnered tremendous world wide press after its fashion show debut during Swim Week 2016.
