The resurgence of Y2K fashion has been everpresent in the last few years. We have watched anything and everything make it’s return slowly; from trucker hats, to baby tees, to low-rise jeans. While it is expected to fade out one day, as most fads do, Miu Miu’s recent runway has brought more life into the aesthetic than ever before with just one item– micro mini skirts.

Miuccia Prada’s spring 2022 collection was reminiscent of an edgier Gossip Girl, an ode to Xtina, and a sophisticated Paris Hilton cosplay all in one. While the beloved designer brought back some other classic faves such as cropped cardigans and knee socks, the micro mini skirt with shredded pockets and thin belts stuck out among the crowd.
While we have witnessed the evolution of skirts over the last two decades, be it denim mini’s or tennis skorts, it seems as though there was never a more perfect time for the micro skirt to make it’s grand return than now. In an era where we are covering a lot of ourselves with masks and other safety equipment, there is a desire to show more elsewhere– and we’ve certainly seen that on recent runways. Miu Miu and Chanel are just a few of the many brands that showed a lot more leg, tummy, and back in their newest collections.

In short, this small stretch of fabric was enough to steal the entire show, and probably the entire spring season. We can certainly expect to see a lot more of the micro mini skirt outside of fashion week!
