The first thing you’ll notice is all the pink. It’s everywhere. That makes perfect sense, of course –for a collaboration with Barbie, you go all-out for pink, since that color has become synonymous with the brand. So, Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing designed the collection’s palette to evolve from the softest blushes to a host of stronger tones.

Pink is the color that perfectly aligns with the modern Balmain Army’s bold spirit, as its members push back and push forward—while always making sure to push every single envelope along the way!
Olivier Rousteing and his Balmain design team have also been inspired by the Barbie universe’s familiar bright iconography. Badges, tees and hoodies cleverly channel the bold graphic treatment that one immediately recognizes as Barbie’s— and many of the accessories are inventive hybrids of Balmain’s signature bags and Barbie packaging. Much of this limited-edition collection plays with new spins on familiar Balmain signatures, including the house’s iconic marinière and its mesmerizing Labyrinth pattern.

“TOGETHER BARBIE AND BALMAIN ARE CREATING A NEW CHAPTER IN THE LEGACY OF THE TOY AND FASHION INDUSTRIES.”RICHARD DICKSON, PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF MATTEL
“For this collaboration, we are building upon the new New French Style of Balmain’s most recent collections, once again showing that Balmain is inspired by the truly diverse and exciting beauty found on today’s Parisian boulevards and avenues. This collection also rejects any arbitrary gender limitations— this is an almost 100% unisex collection. For, just as today’s Barbie makes clear, there’s nothing holding us back anymore!” – Olivier Rousteing
