Banksy took NYC by storm this past October with his month long residency in the city. In case you missed out, Banksy dropped some real dope street art on New Yorkers that even had former Mayor Bloomberg stepping in to comment on the artist’s exploits. While some folks complained about vandalism, we were amazed and wowed by the great art. But since then we haven’t heard a peep from dear Banksy.
So what is Banksy up to these days?
Banksy is the alias of a UK artist whose real identity remains unknown, despite intense speculation. The two names commonly suggested are Robert Banks and Robin Gunningham. The new scoop is that Banksy just may be ahead to the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia this month.
While some source claim that this is probably just a hyped up online rumor, Voice Of Russia claims that they have a source. Vitaly Borisov, founder of street-art group Letscolors, claims that it is true and will be one of the country’s biggest art events to date. Banksy’s official website makes not mention of an appearance there.
With Banksy’s work from the NYC exhibition still making headlines for the jaw dropping auction prices, music artist Chris Martin just dropped over £400,000 for a Banksy piece with other items being auctioned off for prices in the millions. Some folks got lucky and got some of his work by sheer luck when he chose to brand some NYC buildings with his unique style of art.
We’ll stay on the alert about the Sochi Games rumor. Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see what Banksy blesses us with next!
