After literally reinventing Bottega Veneta and firing up a lust for the brand with urban Gen Z influencers. Designer Daniel Lee, who left made his debut as Burberry’s new chief creative officer inside a packed, venue under London’s Oval stadium. The show had British themes and hot toddies were served to guests before the show.
The highly-anticipated event, attended by VIPs including Naomi Campbell, Bianca Jagger, Skepta and Anna Wintour, marked a homecoming for the boy from Bradford, West Yorkshire, who previously held the top creative role at Italian label Bottega Veneta.
Speaking to press backstage after the runway, Lee said he wanted to “celebrate what’s great about the country.”
“What’s unique about London and why I’m so happy to be back here is I’m so inspired all the time. When you walk down the street you see people from so many different walks of life living together and that’s something that I’ve missed.”
Lee’s new vision for Burberry is not a return to traditional British, no beige trench coats. He is attempting to push the label forward into an edgier space.
The Burberry check was still in Lee’s debut collection. He made it different though and had the iconic print in a wider range of colors from purple and blue, to red and brown. The pattern accompanied the new Equestrian Knight Design (EKD) logo
