The only thing better than fashion is sharing time with pets. One New York based designer has a unique take on both. Janelle Funari an eco-couture designer recently made a dynamic debut on the Paris runway with her new collection entitled “Ethereal Deep Dream”. Janelle Funari of Funari New York made history as one of the first brands to showcase a full runway collection for both furry pets and models at Paris Fashion Week SS24.

The Funari Paris line featured a line of luxurious lingerie as well as dresses and jackets. With breathable, sustainable fabrics, the comfortable Eco-Couture line offers unique day-to-night styling. The line features recycled fabrics and unique brand-exclusive materials sourced from around the world It was also an incredibly fun and inventive runway show because it featured her well appointed pet clothing line.

The clothing line Funari New York launched in 2007, but the Funari Pet Collection Began in 2014 when designer Janelle Funari could not find clothing for her curvy French Bulldog, Maxine. She began to recycle fabrics from her runway collection for pets to wear, and the rest is history!

The collection is about the creation of unique high fashion with functional practicality, eco-friendly fabrication and sustainable practices. The vibe of the line will evoke empowerment, sexiness, confidence and versatility.

This season, the line is complete with flattering, feminine and versatile pieces with a masculine flare, a retro 70s feel and a callback to historical fashion. The colors are muted yet vivid in mustard, dusty pink, robin’s egg blue, teal, gold and black remains as the core color of the Funari brand. The exclusive print of the seasonon is a distorted hand painted abstract artwork in teal and hot pink hues.

Key styles include a fit and flare raincoat in unique materials such as a laser cut foiled lace and waterproof technology, along with vegan leather trench coat styles hand painted by artist Jodi Decrenza. Palazzo-style pleated, vegan leather pants in many color options and available in wrinkle- resistant recycled techno fibers. Silhouettes include comfortable  corset styles paired with flowering ruffle skirts, floor length skirts and pencil skirts.

Funari New York is thrilled to partner with renowned artist, Jodi DeCrenza on an Art Meets Fashion collaboration. DeCrenza’s artwork will be featured on Funari’s vegan leather jackets (recycled from vegetable waste) that were premiered on the runway and will later be displayed at the Louvre in Paris October 22-29th 2023. Funari has said “the collaboration was an organic opportunity since the abstract nature-inspired artwork of DeCrenza correlates perfectly with the Funari vision”.  Both brands believe in the urgency to assist with the global effects and devastation occurring daily in the world due to climate change,  With each coat sold they plan to give 10% back to the American Red Cross.

Funari New York believes in inclusivity and advocates for using models in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and disabilities. At Paris Fashion Week, Funari is proud to announce the joining of Monika Myers of Canada to walk the runway as the first teen model with Down syndrome to walk the runway in Paris!
