Yityish Aynaw a 21 year old Ethiopian-Israeli woman Ethiopian-Israeli woman won Israel's national beauty pageant and is the first Ethipian to win the pageant
When compared to other countries such as France, England, or Italy; Israel might not be as popular among Americans, but it’s a beautiful place with amazing people. It is the only country in the Middle East with a liberal democracy, but for a place that has had female presidents before most of the world caught on, there was still one thing that had yet to be achieved…no black woman had ever won Miss Israel.
In 2013, Aynaw changed that and has been making headlines as she visits New York and Washington on an invitation she received from the Israeli Embassy.

So what made Aynaw sign up for the beauty pageant?
While in the army, which is something all Israeli’s must do, she had joked with her friend about signing up. It seems as if her friend believed she would do well, because soon after her military service ended Aynaw got a call confirming her friend had indeed signed her up to compete in the beauty pageant.
Meet Yityish “Titi” Aynaw, The First Black Miss Israel
Who knew an Ethiopian immigrate coming to Israel at the age of 12 to live with her grandparents after her parents dead would change history?
It’s a marvelous thing and life changing! One day she was an officer in the military and the next two months she’s Miss Israel. Aynaw is no longer Miss Israel as the new competition was completed in March, but she was an inspiration to all and even brought more diversity to the pageant as one of the contestants was from France. Hopefully this will not be the last we see of Yityish “Titi” Aynaw.
