The Tribeca Film Festival is set to take place on April 16th and this year music will play a major role in the festival. The music performances will go on throughout the festival beginning on opening night which starts with a documentary called Time Is Illmatic, which is a documentary about the making of the album Illmatic by hip-hop legend Nas back in 1994. After the screening Nas will perform music from the album at the Beacon theater. The album was released nearly 20 years ago and Nas has been working on the documentary for the album for nearly 10 years.
While Nas’s performance and the screening of the documentary will likely be the highlight of the festival, a number of other music documentaries will also be showing. These documentaries include Super Duper Alice Cooper which looks at the life of rock legend Alice Cooper and was made by directors Reginald Harkema, Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen. Mike Myers will also be debuting a film as a director which is called Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon.
Other documentaries to be shown will focus on the life of Bob Weir, the guitarist for the Grateful Dead as well as another documentary that covers the friendship between Justin Kauflin and Clark Terry. All of these stories focus on legends and music and are sure to enlighten people who are curious about the lives of these stars as well as their work. The Tribeca Film Festival will be held in New York City and will run through April 27th
