Ciara as the 2015 Face of Roberto Cavalli
I love Italian fashion lines. If I’m really excited to see someone I will find myself putting on something from the highstreets of Milan. It’s a statement.
I’ve always had a special affinity for Roberto Cavalli. I met him at a party in the Hollywood Hills once and he was absolutely charming. There are certain designers that really adore women. He seemed like that to me, a wonderful old world gentleman.
I was in love with the Editorials featuring Ciara in 2015. That particular collection was one of his best I thought.
Over the years Planet Fashion has produced Miami Swimwear Fashion Week and we worked with the US side of the Roberto Cavalli brand several times, featuring their swim and resort collection.
Our Robert Cavalli show always elevated the aesthetics of the fashion week. Those sexy jungle and animal prints juxtaposed with elegant designs seemed so aligned with the tropical Miami backdrop.
Then on On March 29, 2019, the Roberto Cavalli company closed its US stores and liquidated its North American operations. On the same day the brand announced plans to seek an agreement with creditors in a bid to keep the business afloat while it searched for an investor.
In a highly embarrassing moment, security guards entered the company’s US stores and outlets without notice and kicked employees out, according to two salespeople. Employees were later told by senior corporate management that the fashion house was closed and restructuring.
As a result, US CEO Salvatore Tramuto resigned.
Later that year Emirati billionaire businessman Hussain Sajwani acquired Italian fashion group Roberto Cavalli.
It was a weird time for this beautiful and iconic fashion house.
I was super excited to see that Roberto Cavalli has restructured and the group is back. Their latest Resort collection for 2021 is gorgeous. There is a new modern urban feel yet with some of the prints that you would normally associate with the line. Looking forward to seeing more from Roberto Cavalli Group and we wish well.
