lordeThe run up to the 2014 Billboard Music Awards seems to have ignited a lot off buzz, after the final nomination list was revealed earlier this week. The awards that carry a number of competitive categories were not without the colorful names of some of the leading artist drawn from different musical genres.  The quintessential rapper, Drake, Lorde, the controversial Miley Cyrus, and Luke Bryan, were on top.

Music Heavyweights
The annual event is the brainchild of the Billboard Music Magazine. Winners who finally scoop awards are chosen via music fan discretion, music sales, both contemporary and digital albums sales. Other discretions followed by the magazines panel include social media prominence, global radio airplay, Spotify, YouTube, and Vevo interaction, amongst other leading music fan portals. When the 2014 billboard presentation goes down May 18 at the prestigious Las Vegas MGM Grand Hotel venue, there will be a number of music heavyweights heading to the podium to receive the trophies for their artistic achievements.

Billboard D-Day
Of the popular artists set for the 2014 Billboard d-day include: Imagine Dragons and Lorde, who top the list of nominees. Hot on their heels are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake, and the roaring Katy Perry. Breaking the nominations list on ABC news channel, musician Jason Derulo, mentioned Imagine Dragons and Lorde in 12 of the total 40 categories set to see successful artists going home with a billboard trophy. The rest: Perry, Timberlake, and Macklemore received 11, 10, and 8 mentions respectively.

Top Names
Even after rocking 2013 with their explosive “Night Visions” collection, Imagine Dragons will be getting their first ever Billboard musical award. Their album was nominated for the Top Rock Album for 2014. This is the album with the record breaking hit “Radioactive,” which earlier ripped apart Billboards Record for the highest number of weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 list.

For Lorde, her nomination was expected after her debut 2013 hit “Royals”. The song became an instant Billboard Hot 100 no.1 single. This was from her first album “Pure Heroine”. Surprisingly, the top two finalists are set to compete viciously for 9 different categories when they are listed as the favorites to win respective awards. Some of the categories the two are pitted against each other include: Top Rock Song, Top Digital Song, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Song, and Top Rock Artist, among others.

Timberlake will be in contention to pick his first 2014 Billboard Music Award. As a solo artist, the mirrors singer will be hoping to get top mention in any of the 11 categories he is tipped to emerge victorious. He is so far the only artist with three entries for albums which include: “The 20/20 Experience”, and “The 20/20 Experience (2). Luke Bryan has been listed in the country music category with seven nominations, and will be appearing on the Top Male Artist group as well.

Chevrolet 2014 Milestone Award
One artist will be feted with the Chevrolet 2014 Milestone Award. The award is set for an artist who has made a huge mark in the industry over the last one year. Already six finalists have been potential finalists. They include: OneRepublic, Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Luke Bryan, and Ellie Goulding. The winner will be decided by votes cast on the Billboard.com/milestone website.
