Mark Zuckerberg recently made headlines when the announcement was made that he was giving much of his earnings from Facebook to charitable causes. Mark Zuckerberg is well known as the CEO of Facebook and one of the youngest entrepreneurs to amass a large amount of wealth in the tech space. Mark Zuckerberg saw his rise to fame occur as his company Facebook grew over the past decade to amass hundreds of millions of users and eventually becoming the largest social network in the world.

To help the company keep growing last year Zuckerberg took the company public with a highly publicized IPO that resulted in the CEO’s stock in the company becoming worth millions. It was recently released that Zuckerberg then gave $970 million dollars of the stock in Facebook to a Silicon Valley charity called the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The information on how these funds will be used will not yet be released until the foundation figures out exactly how to allocate the funds.

Back in 2011, Mark Zuckerberg also gave $100 million in donations to the Newark school district. This donation was given in order to help the school district improve as it has been plagued with problems including high drop out rates and low test scores. The donation also added to the “Breakthrough Prize” awards for math and science research to help promote students to get involved in science and math as a career. Zuckerberg says that he has more plans to keep giving money to various organizations as part of his plan to give much of his wealth away over his life.
